Chicago`s public bathrooms: Few and far between

Chicago operates few public restrooms, and little information is available on those that do exist. The lack of public restrooms especially affects unhoused people and those with medical needs but is an issue for everyone. One sign of the problem: Since January 2016, Chicago police have issued more than 29,000 tickets for public urination/defecation. Many of the tickets were issued in predominantly Black and Latinx communities on the South and West sides.
